Dragan Pavlicevic: Is China Taking Over Serbia and the Balkans?

Dragan Pavlićević is a Lecturer in China Studies (International Politics), at the Department of China Studies, Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University, Suzhou, China. Dragan holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham and was previously a visiting research fellow at the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore. His research spans both both China's domestic and foreign affairs, and is currently especially focused on China's relations with Serbia and, wider, Central and Eastern Europe, the politics of China's overseas infrastructure projects ( especially high-speed railways), and China's regional multilateral initiatives.

On this podcast, Dragan discusses the development of the Belt and Road Initiative in Serbia and in the wider Balkan region. In the course of the interview he addresses the concerns that China uses its economic engagement with the region to excercise political pressure and discusses the development of the (in)famous Belgrade-Budapest Railway Project.
