  1. Xi Jinping opened the inaugural China International Import Exposition in China. Dubbed as “not just another expo”, CIIE will feature over 3,600 companies from over 170 countries.


  2. Xi’s keynote address at CIIE pledged greater opening up and reform, in particular highlighting the education and healthcare sectors as ones that would see eased investment restrictions for foreign firms.   - Read more


  3. Xi pledges that China would import $30tn and $10tn of goods and services over the next 15 years. These are large numbers, but do not represent sizable deviations from the current trajectory China is on.   - Read more


  4. The foreign business community was largely reticent about Xi’s keynote address at CIIE. At Bo’ao, Xi said that CIIE was not just another expo” Expectations were therefore that Xi would announce major policy opening measures –that did not happen.
